License overview
A short overview of the Meep license model. Binding terms ship with your purchase.
This page is a short, plain-English overview. The binding contract is delivered with your purchase — that document is authoritative for the specifics.
The model
Meep is proprietary, source-available software. You can read every line of the engine because the full source ships in the npm package. Usage is governed by a license you obtain separately.
There are four tiers:
| Tier | Who it’s for | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Hobby and small commercial use (≤ $50K/yr) | Free |
| Indie | A single shipped product | One-time per project |
| Standard | Studios with ongoing development | Annual per seat |
| Enterprise | Larger studios, publishers, custom terms | Custom annual contract |

What every tier includes
- Use of Meep to build commercial products (within the limits of your tier).
- Read access to the full engine source via the npm package.
- The right to ship your compiled product to end users on any platform.
The non-compete, briefly
You may not use Meep — wholly or in part — to build a derivative game engine, ECS framework, or engine-like SDK. That’s the only restriction worth highlighting on a marketing page because everything else (don’t redistribute the source, don’t strip copyright headers, don’t exceed your tier) follows from common-sense expectations of any commercial license.
If you have a specific project in mind and you’re not sure whether the non-compete applies, email me — I’ll give you a written read.
Support, in honest terms
Meep is built and maintained by one person. So:
- Free and Indie tiers don’t include direct support. You get the docs, the source, and (eventually) a community channel.
- Standard includes best-effort email replies from me personally.
- Enterprise can purchase dedicated support hours and an SLA in writing.
Everything else
Detailed seat definitions, scope language, transferability, termination, governing law, and similar terms live in the license file you receive on purchase. If you need to see specific contract language before buying — for procurement, legal review, or sign-off — email me and I’ll send a sample.
